A Rising Star: Lexi-Jayne Rooksby Qualifies for Junior Darts Competition

Lexi-Jayne Rooksby, a 15-year-old from Rushden, Northamptonshire, has clinched a spot in the prestigious JDC World Youth Championship, set to take place in Gibraltar this November. Affectionately known as "The Knockout," Rooksby's journey to this major junior competition marks a significant milestone in her rapidly advancing darts career.

A Humble Beginning

Rooksby's foray into darts is as unexpected as it is inspiring. Just two years ago, she picked up the sport not out of ambition, but to help her father's pub team, which was short on players at the time. What started as a casual involvement soon revealed a natural aptitude for the game, setting Rooksby on a path toward competitive success. In a remarkably short period, Rooksby has made a name for herself at the county level. She has faced seasoned professionals from Northamptonshire, including "Rapid" Ricky Evans from Kettering and the father-son duo, James and Josh Richardson, who also hail from Rushden.

Natural Talent

What makes Rooksby's story even more compelling is her minimal practice regime. Despite admitting she "doesn't practice much" and has never honed her skills at home, she has exhibited a level of skill and composure that many seasoned players would envy. Her father, Mick Rooksby, expressed immense pride and astonishment at his daughter's achievements. "When she first started playing, there was no inkling to what she was going to be like, so when she qualified, there were a few tears," he said. "To only do [minimum practice] and be as good as she is—you don't really hear those kinds of stories."

Quotes from the Prodigy

Rooksby herself remains modest about her accomplishments. "I am pleased to qualify; I didn't think I was going to get as far as I did," she shared. "I hope I do well, but there's going to be good people there. I'll try my best."

Future Prospects

As Rooksby prepares for the JDC World Youth Championship, her future in the sport looks incredibly promising. While her achievements thus far are extraordinary, they may just be the beginning for this young talent. If she continues on this path, "The Knockout" could become a household name in the darts world. The JDC World Youth Championship will undoubtedly be a significant test for Rooksby, but given her track record, she is more than capable of rising to the occasion. For now, all eyes are on Gibraltar, where this 15-year-old phenom will look to add another chapter to her already impressive story.
