As the New York Giants make a determined push towards securing their playoff aspirations, one player who has emerged as a crucial asset is second-year wide receiver Jalin Hyatt. Drafted out of Tennessee as a third-round pick, Hyatt has shown significant promise and has quickly become an integral part of the Giants' offensive lineup.
A Season of Determination and Growth
Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing in at 185 pounds, Hyatt's stature is prototypical for a wide receiver. However, he has recognized the need to prepare his body for the rigors of the NFL. "It's definitely hard for myself (to gain weight). Some guys, it's easier for them to gain weight or gain muscle. For myself, it's harder. I burn a lot of calories quick. I'm just one of those guys that's got to just keep eating," Hyatt explained. His efforts to bulk up have included adding Uncrustables, those frozen, individually wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, to his diet. "PB&J's was one of my biggest things, because you want to eat your full meal. You don't want to eat a little bit and drink a protein shake. Then you're not really getting anything. So, for myself, finishing, completing your full meals, and then, an hour later or 30 minutes later, that's when you put in an Uncrustables or a PB&J or a little protein shake," Hyatt elaborated.
Pivotal Performances
Hyatt's dedication to his physical regimen and his determination on the field have paid dividends for the Giants. In Week 2 of the 2023 season, his 58-yard reception was a highlight in the Giants' narrow three-point victory over the Cardinals. This catch not only demonstrated his speed and athletic ability but also his potential to make game-changing plays. As the season progressed, Hyatt continued to showcase his talent. In Week 7, he recorded two crucial catches for 75 yards in New York's 14-7 victory over the Commanders, further solidifying his role as a key contributor to the Giants' offense.
Milestones and Aspirations
Hyatt's breakout performance came in Week 12, where he notched his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. This milestone was instrumental in the Giants' tight victory over the Patriots, highlighting Hyatt's growing reliability and versatility as a receiver. Reflecting on the team's goals and his role within it, Hyatt stated, "For me, I always set high expectations. Just looking at our team, looking at what we got—for goals, I just want a team goal. We have a playoff team. That's what we want to do. That's our focus and we're gonna get there." His optimism and commitment to team success underline the collective spirit within the Giants' locker room as they strive for postseason glory.
Hyatt's blend of talent, hard work, and strategic dietary adjustments have made him a standout player to watch. As the Giants continue their pursuit of a playoff berth, his contributions both on and off the field will undoubtedly be a key factor in their journey.
